Medlux Rehabilitation & Wellness is a medical group that focuses on the delivery of physical medicine and rehabilitation services in the Chicagoland area. The rehabilitation professionals at Medlux are specialists at helping people recover from debilitating conditions, whether they are neurological, orthopedic, sports related, or result from a complex medical condition. Medlux provides services at our outpatient offices, specialized inpatient rehabilitation centers, and hospitals, where we form multispecialty treatment teams.
Medlux Rehabilitation and Wellness has been operating in the Chicagoland area since 2007, providing care to thousands of patients at multiple locations. We are a medical group owned and operated by a physiatrist. Medlux’s model is to partner our Physiatrist and physician extenders with rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, chiropractors, and rehabilitation therapist to provide physician-directed rehabilitation care.
Ricardo A. Knight
Founder & President
Ricardo A. Knight, M.D., MBA received his Medical Degree in 1993 from State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, but began his career in rehabilitation medicine as a Physical Therapist in 1987. Dr. Knight received his training in Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia and is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Knight obtained his MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.
Over his career, Dr. Knight has held positions at many prominent institutions including Harvard Medical School, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Among Dr. Knight’s many leadership positions include serving as the Spinal Cord Program Medical Director at Van Matre Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Rockford, and on the Board of Directors of UCAN, a child social service organization. Dr. Knight has specialized training in pain management, musculoskeletal medicine, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Dr. Knight belongs to the following professional societies: American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists, American Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and International Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine.
Katrina Barnes, ANP
Katrina Barnes, ANP started her career as a nurse in 2001 graduating from Loyola University Chicago, on the Dean’s List and Summa Cum Laude honors. Katrina received her Master’s in Science in Nursing becoming an Adult Nurse Practitioner and Cardiovascular Health and Disease Management Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2007, from Loyola University Chicago, graduating on the Dean’s List.
Before starting to work for Dr. Knight at Medlux Rehabilitation and Wellness, Katrina worked at Loyola University Medical Center as a Surgery/Trauma Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse, from 2001-2006, where she provided care for patients recovering from a wide range of surgeries.
Katrina then went on to become a Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse at Loyola University Medical Center, from 2006-2007, where she assessed and cared for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery, especially open heart surgery. After receiving her Adult Nurse Practitioner Board Certification in 2007, she began working at Midwest Heart Specialists providing direct care including assessments, providing diagnoses, prescribing treatments and ordering diagnostic tests. In 2010, Katrina completed her Case Management/Utilization Review training and started Case Management work at Loyola University Medical Center.
Since 2010 Katrina has been working for Medlux where she provides care to nursing home residents and rehabilitation patients. Katrina performs physical exams, develops medical diagnoses and treatment plans with a special focus on rehabilitation needs, pain management, and musculoskeletal problems.
Katrina is an active member of the American Heart Association and Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.
Minal Patel, PA-C
Minal Patel, PA-C has over seven years of experience dealing with complex medical patients in various clinical settings. She received her Physician Assistant degree with high honors in 2007 from Malcolm X College. Minal joined Medlux Rehab and Wellness in 2014 and serves as the Rehabilitation Medicine Physician Assistant at our sub-acute rehabilitations programs, where her focus is the rehabilitation of patients with debilitating medical, orthopedic and neurological conditions.
Jennifer Walsh, ANP
Jennifer Walsh, ANP, started her career as nurse in 2004, graduating from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Jennifer then went on to receive a Master’s of Science in Nursing becoming an Adult Nurse Practitioner with Distinction in 2011 from North Park University, graduating with the Xavier P. Smith Graduate Student Achievement Award.
Before starting to work for Dr. Knight at Medlux Rehabilitation and Wellness, Jennifer started her nursing career at Alexian Brothers Medical Center as a Registered Pediatric Nurse. She then moved to Springfield IL where she continued her nursing career at St. John’s Hospital as a Surgical Nurse who specialized in pediatrics and urological surgeries. Jennifer returned to work for Alexian Brothers Medical Center, from 2006-2010, as a Clinician IV/Assistant manager of a Pediatric/Adult Medical-Surgical Unit. From there, Jennifer worked at Manor Care Rehabilitation Center as a Wound Care Nurse. After receiving her Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification in 2011, she began working at an integrative wellness clinic assessing and treating patients with musculoskeletal and neurological diseases.
Since 2013, Jennifer has been working for Medlux Rehabilitation and Wellness. She provides direct medical care to nursing home residents and rehabilitation patients. She sees patients at two sub-acute rehabilitation facilities, where she is responsible for patient evaluations, diagnoses and treatment plans with a special focus on rehabilitation needs, pain management, and musculoskeletal problems.
